ConnXus Platinum Member Spotlight: SystemDomain Inc.
Our latest installment of the ConnXus Platinum Member Spotlight series features Shubhi Garg, president and CEO of SystemDomain Inc. (SDI), a leading provider of information technology consulting services. The firm is located in Warrenville, Illinois.
Founders Shubhi and Anil Garg realized the need for contingent, skilled IT resources during the height of the dot-com era in the late 90’s. Originally founded as an IT service and staff augmentation firm, SystemDomain has evolved their vision and focus towards cyber security and risk management, digital, cloud, data analytics and professional services (such as enterprise architecture, database, network management, ERP, and CRM).
SDI maintains strategic partnerships with leading software companies such as ConnXus to provide professional integration services to utility, healthcare, financial, and research organizations. SDI also boasts an offshore software development and support center to provide efficient and cost-effective IT services, with the goal of becoming the leading diversified IT professional services and solutions company through reliable, efficient, and innovative solutions.
The explosive growth in the usage and adaptation of the internet by both businesses and consumers presented unique and lucrative opportunities for companies such as SDI. However, stiff competition in a saturated field presented SDI with familiar challenges – how do you break into the larger market with so many major players in the game?
“We were competing with the big players in technology, most of the potential clients already had their set vendors they would like to do business with,” says Shubhi.
Woman-owned Business Enterprise (WBE) and Minority-owned Business Enterprise (MBE) certification (1) provided SDI opportunities to connect with organizations with diverse spend requirements, and through their enthusiasm, passion, and determination they were able to find their niche and customer base.
“We were always looking for an opportunity to network and connect with procurement managers and decision makers to find success within our industry.”
“Of course, struggles are important… mine were probably not bigger than anyone else because it’s based on one’s perspective. There is always a story and yes, I would say being a woman, and an immigrant in technology has some unique challenges.”
“I am inspired by many women who are leaders in their industry, though the number is still less in the technology world, but it’s changing.
Getting Certified for Diversity
After careful evaluation of the opportunities certification can bring, SDI has been certified as a WBE and MBE organization at the regional, state, and local level.
“The process was not difficult, but it was very detailed and time consuming. We worked very closely with our local organization called Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC). I would recommend them as the best reliable resource available to any small business at no cost.”
In 2016, SystemDomain collaborated with larger organizations who could provide support and solutions to broaden their horizons and explore new business opportunities.
Governing certification bodies such as the National Minority Supplier Development Council (NMSDC) (2) and the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC) (3) facilitated SystemDomain with industry research, collaboration with public and private sector. These certifications helped SDI to compete equitably for business opportunities and achieve economic success. These certifications provided SDI a platform to showcase small, woman owned and minority firm’s capabilities to Public and large Private Sector firms.

Advice for Future DBEs
As technology continues to advance at an accelerating rate, companies like SystemDomain provide organizations the opportunity to drive business innovation and development by increasing business agility, lowering costs, and reducing IT complexity. For up and coming DBE entrepreneurs Shubhi stresses the importance of diverse business certification:
“MBE/WBE certifications provide clients assurance that the owner of the company is who they say they are national certification organizations such as WBENC and NMSDC put great efforts in providing networking opportunities to their members. There are many programs and events that these organizations offer to their members and their teams go above and beyond to help and guide their members, however keep in mind that these are not a guarantee to secure new customers – you should still create appropriate business and marketing strategies and follow through with your prospects.” Visit System Domain’s website here.
