My Reflections On The “Procurement with Purpose” Event Hosted By SAP Ariba

By: Rod Robinson, ConnXus CEO and Founder

October 26th, 2017 was big day for me, my 50th birthday. I was fortunate to celebrate part of that special day in the company of my friends at SAP Ariba at Hudson Yards, New York City. It coincided with the day that I was invited to participate in SAP Ariba’s inaugural “Procurement with Purpose” event in partnership with the United Nations.

I was part of a group of 60 procurement and supply chain leaders, researchers, technologists and industry experts. We engaged in a very rich dialogue focused on creating more diverse, ethical and transparent supply chains. Attendees included executives from American Express, Aramark, Avon, BNP Paribas, Cisco, Johnson & Johnson, The Stanley Works and Teva Pharmaceuticals.

I had the pleasure of participating in two panel discussions focused on how to build more diverse & inclusive supply chains and the role of digitization in procuring with purpose. Both panels provided a great opportunity to share how innovative companies like ConnXus, OMX and Plastics for Change are partnering with SAP Ariba to help global companies build more inclusive, sustainable and transparent supply chains. It was also extremely valuable to hear, directly from procurement executives of leading companies, that inclusive, sustainable and transparent supply chains continue to grow as strategic imperatives within their organizations.

I’m always eager to share how the ConnXus platform is helping our customers build more inclusive and sustainable supply chains while also helping our growing network of diverse suppliers gain access to new procurement opportunities. We know that every $1M in spend directed at a small business has a significant impact on the economy in the form of jobs growth and job retention. After witnessing the passion, energy and purpose at Hudson Yards on October 26th, I am extremely excited about the future. We all seemed to agree that increased digitization is key to driving scale. Kudos to SAP Ariba for leading the charge and being a catalyst for change. I look forward to seeing our collective progress in 2018.
